Thigh Lift Surgery

  • The thigh lift procedure is aimed at removing excess skin and fat from the thigh, resulting in smoother skin and proportionate contouring of the thighs.
  • With ageing, the inner side of your thighs become loose and they appear wrinkled and flabby. Along with this, losing extreme weight can also cause excess skin in the thighs. The excess skin may even get rubbed against each other while walking and makes you uncomfortable.
  • Dr B.R.N Padmini has over 13 years of experience in all aspects of aesthetic surgeries on various parts of the body such as the face, breasts, abdomen, thighs, etc. She is always honest to her patients about the expected results of the procedures and never forces a patient to have surgery by giving false hopes.

Why Should I Consider a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift surgery is a right choice for you if you have loose and sagging skin which does not improve with diet and exercise. A thigh lift surgery is helpful in the following ways:

  • You can get rid of excess skin and fat in your thighs
  • Tightens the sagging skin on your thighs
  • Helps gain well-proportioned contours of thighs
  • You get firmer, smoother skin on your thighs
  • Enhances your self-esteem

How to Prepare for a Thigh Lift?

Before deciding on a thigh lift, our plastic surgeon will evaluate your medical history, examines your thighs, and asks about your past thigh injuries or surgeries. She discusses your concerns about your excess skin and your expectations from the procedure. She also explains about the procedure to make sure you are aware of the expected results, benefits, and possible risks.

Before performing the thigh lift, the surgeon will ask you to follow the below instructions:

  • Avoid using anti-inflammatory medications and aspirin before undergoing a thigh lift to prevent bleeding
  • Eating and drinking restrictions are to be followed before the procedure
  • Quit smoking to promote healing
  • Maintain a stable weight to ensure the best results and to reduce complications from surgery
  • Stay hydrated before and after your surgery for a safe recovery
  • Arrange someone to drive you home after a thigh lift

What Happens During a Thigh Lift Surgery?

    • After a detailed discussion regarding your requirements, our team of surgeons will examine your lower body for the amount of fat deposition, quality and distribution of the loose skin.
    • Before undergoing the procedure, our surgeon will again brief you about thigh lift and will make markings on your thighs as per the treatment plan. The thigh lift procedure is performed under general anaesthesia to make you comfortable. The surgeon will make incisions based on the area to be treated, your choice, and the degree of correction. The incisions will be long and you may leave scars. Hence, our surgeon makes incisions in such a way that they are hidden.
  • MEDIAL THIGH LIFT

An incision is given in the groin region and any excess fat and skin are excised along the inner aspect of the thigh. For patients requiring substantial removal of excess skin, a longitudinal incision is made along the inner thigh.  Medial thigh lift contours the medial thigh from the groin to the knee.

  • LATERAL THIGH LIFT

The procedure is more complex and involves contouring the entire thigh and buttock if necessary. Depending upon the requirements, the incision may be extended from the groin, around the hip and if required in the buttock fold.

If the amount of loose skin to be removed in the thigh region is moderate, then only the skin under the thigh below the groin buttock crease needs to be removed. In this case, you will have a scar below your bikini line.

But if you have long bulges, then the loose and fatty skin across the thigh region extending up to your knee needs to be removed. For this, the incision is made from the inside of your thighs towards the back. The entire procedure can take up to 3 hours. The incisions will be closed using skin adhesive tapes or sutures.

Recovery From a Thigh Lift

  • After the surgery you may experience pain, numbness, bruising, and swelling for a period of 5-7 days. You will be advised to wear a surgical compression garment for a period of 4-6 weeks. Drains will be removed after 24 hours.
  • All the sutures are absorbable sutures and need not be removed. You will be advised to follow aggressive lymphatic massages over the operated areas starting in the 2nd week. They aid in reducing the swelling, pain, and small lumps and in achieving better contours.
  • You may be advised to start moving around in the room from the second day to minimize the formation of blood clots.
  • You may be advised to keep a pillow beneath your lower thigh and knees while lying down to speed up the healing process. You may return to work in 1 week to 2 weeks depending upon the complexity of the surgery and the type of your professional work.
  • You may be advised to avoid heavy exercises, jogging, and swimming for 4-6 weeks.
  • You may be advised to have adequate hydration and a normal diet in the post-operative period.

Results After Thigh Lift

You can see the results immediately and your thighs look firm, tighter, and smooth. However, it takes up to several months to see the full results of the procedure. You may have a long scar, but it fades with time and takes the colour of your skin. The results of a thigh lift surgery are long-lasting. But you should ensure to maintain a stable and healthy weight. But as you get older, the skin may lose its elasticity and the muscle tissue may become loose.
